Cross FontsCross Font Shapes for Word, Indesign, PaintShop Pro, Elements and others
Installing cross font sets on PC The sets are sent in zip format, you will need to expand the zip file (this should be automatic on most modern OS but if not, perhaps check out Stuffit Expander - a free decompression tool). Once expanded, select the true type cross font file (TTF format) and right click and either the install option will be available or you will see the option to open the windows font viewer
On starting the font viewer application, you will see the install button on starting that application.
The exact list of files that appear with the open with option might vary (on mine you will see the FontLab application and Photoshop - Photoshop baffles me as it can't open TTF files but there you go)
Another option, simply drag the cross (crosses) TTF file to the control panel 'font' section.
Once installed, you will see the font appear in the type / text menu of your favorite application. Most applications support type / text / fonts (there are a few that come to mind that don't such as some 3D applications)
Example below shows the font pack 177 in the Photoshop type dropdown. Once selected, use the designs throughout the application. Added: December 31st 2011
Corel PaintShop Pro - accessing cross font shapes Access the cross shape designs in PSP via the text tool and the tool options palette. Select the cross font from the dropdown list.
Once loaded, you can add the designs to your current document. Type the characters via the A B C D etc on the keyboard. There is a document supplied with all the sets showing the designs and the character relationship.
PSP Preset shapes - crosses The text tool in PSP is a great way to create new psp preset shapes (there is no other way to import them into the application - though you can always create new designs via the pen tools). Create some text (again using the cross designs)
Right click the cross font shape and you will see a menu - one of the options is convert text to curves as single shape. Select the convert and the cross font shape is now a preset shape and can be used as such in PSP as well as saved via the file menu and export command 'shape'.
Installing cross fonts on a MAC As with the PC, expand the crosses zip file - this should be automatic on the mac but if not I would suggest the mac version of the Stuffit Expander. Once expanded, select the cross TTF file and open font book.
Within font book, install the cross font set.
Once installed, you will see the cross font appear in the font book 'user' section
Accessing the cross shapes / font in Microsoft Word etc The cross shapes are all all accessible via the keyboard. Start Word / WordPad / Word Starter etc and then select the font from the type / font dropdown
The cross designs can be re-colored, the font size set and much more (in Word, there are also many other options)
Create cross contour in Photoshop Select the type tool in Photoshop and select a font 'Pack 177 font set' and set the color for the font design and type a character (say A). The cross text shape is a layer and can have layer effects applied in Photoshop such as a stroke (layer menu and layer style command). Set the stroke color. Go to the layer palette and select the stroke setting and right click and select the create layer option - this will create a layer containing the stroke for the cross design. Repeat this with multiple stroke / layer combinations to create a contour for the cross text shape.
Another example below but in this case the stroke is defined as a gradient and the gradient is made up of black and white with the black and white stops placed in the centre of the gradient to create a sharp black line. The stroke style is set to shapeburst so the sharp black line follows the entire cross shape. The stroke / style is also saved as a new Photoshop style via the style palette and a combination of create layer and clicked style can generate a quick (albeit rough cross contour). Drop shadow cross shape in Photoshop A quick way to create a drop shadow is to select the font / text tool and the cross shape font and set the color of the font via the option bar. Type A or B etc as required to see the design. Then go to the color setting again and set to a lighter color and repeat the design slightly offset.
