Type text such as 'A' to create people designs

You then can type the design via the keyboard. The font sets all include displays / thumbnails of the keys to design: these can be found in the thumbnail gallery folder of the font. You can also use something like the charmap application in windows (go to the start menu and type charmap) and then you can select any of the characters in the font. Other tools exist for the display of the font characters, you can find many of them on the web via google / yahoo / bing etc.

Type a single letter or multiple letters as required (at the keyboard). See below to see the text entry in PaintShop Pro

Selection to layer - People designs in PSP

You now need to go to the selections menu and promote the current selection to a layer. As below

Delete the background layer in PSP

Delete the background layer. Select the background layer via the layers palette (view menu if not displayed). Select and then 'delete' via the right click menu. Once deleted, you will have the single layer required by the tube export. See below

Export picture tube and face shapes

Now export the current image as a tube via the file > export > picture tube command. The options for the tube will then appear.

Export options for Paint Shop Pro - pspshape format

Enter the various details for the picture tube. Many different tube effects can be created simply by changing the cells etc. by default it is 1 x 1 but if you enter 10 x 10 then the image will be chopped into more cells creating truly odd abstract images. You can also change the placement and selection as well as the step size etc The name in the image below is tutorial_tube but it can be anything. It is saved as a pspTube file but they can always be renamed to TUB format and then used in earlier and other software such as Splat! and PhotoImpact. See below

Select the tubes tool and display the tube tool options (view menu if not displayed) Select the tube 'tutorial_tube' from the dropdown. The other tubes displayed are from other tubes sets from graphicxtras.com such as the hearts tubes. Set the steps / scale etc as required.

Apply the tubes (from face fonts)

The tubes are then applied across the image. They are black but as mentioned, they can be any color as required or perhaps a gradient or pattern.

Female faces

The font sets include many different poses.

You can apply the shapes as a single design or you can combine the people face shapes in multiple ways as well as using the shapes with other designs. You can also re-color the shapes (they do not have to be black as in the designs below)

examples - the above examples are face shapes from the pack 178 font set. The face designs can be quickly filled in many cases by using a magic wand selection tool (in Photoshop CS6 CS5 etc) and then using the fill command. Some of the designs are less useful here as there are breaks in the line which allows for the selection to fill the entire document

Coloring of the individual shapes depends on the application, most modern applications allow you to color the background as well as the actual design to pink, green, blue etc
