Opening face custom shapes in Photoshop The face shapes are for use in Photoshop and Elements, open the CSH faces shapes file via the file open command or the preset manager or the custom shapes palette right side menu 'load / replace' commands. The file open command is probably the quickest way to load the face shapes into Photoshop

Repousse and 3D face shapes in Photoshop Extended CS6 CS5 You can use the face designs with the Photoshop Extended 3D commands to create stunning 3D effects (in particular the new CS5 Repousse tool - you can also turn the design into a cube etc) You can then export the designs as OBJ (as well as other formats) etc and use the face forms (though no longer vectors) in many different 3D software such as Poser or DAZ 3D or 3D Studio Max.
Use multiple face custom shapes in Photoshop The shapes can be applied once in a design but they can be applied multiple times - perhaps you want to create a crowd or perhaps multiple panels of a comic with subtle shifts of the same head (or variants of the same face etc)

Loading face shapes EPS files The face sets also come with the designs in EPS. The eps files are vector format files and they can be opened in Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, Illustrator, PSP, Indesign and many other applications. In most cases load the shapes via the file open command or use the file place / import commands (to load them as layers) - each application is different and will open the face shapes in a slightly different way

In Photoshop CS6 / CS5, the imported face shape becomes a smart object and can be used with smart filters and layer effects in countless ways. The original shape design (as a smart object) can be re-edited and all the smart filters etc are automatically re-applied to the design.
Face shapes - combining and distress and blends in Photoshop The face designs can be 1) applied in any color 2) Overlapped with different blend modes 3) plug-in effects applied, as a layer 4) Used as a mask for other images 5) Combined with text, warped and distorted 6) Used as a selection 7) As a path 8) As a fill 9) Blurred 10) applied with a different opacity 11) applied as a frame 12) applied repeatedly 13) used as a distressed or grunged image 14) The paths modified to create a new shape 15) used as a brush source 16) used as a pattern source 17) used as a displacement and distortion source etc.
As has been made clear from the list above, the Photoshop shapes are a really key element when it comes to Photoshop and Photoshop Elements.
Face shapes as source for patterns in Photoshop The face patterns can also be used in the same way as a source for patterns in Photoshop Elements.
Select the custom shape tool and then select the color as well as the type of shape to apply (shape layer etc) and then the face shape from the shape palette. In this example, using a face shape from pack 54
Apply the shape and then flatten via the layer flatten command and then edit define pattern command. Apply the pattern via the layer new fill layer pattern command where you can set the scale for the pattern design
The face shapes can be combined, modified, re-colored etc to create very complex as well as basic designs for patterns - a near infinite range of different and unique pattern face shape designs can be created. Added: January 6th 2012

Example Face shape from pack 152 used twice with different fills of gradients (gradient colors from graphicxtras gradients pack 3). The gradients fill a selection created via the path shape (second option on the Photoshop options for custom shapes). Convert to selections via the path palette.
