Demo / sampler
The plug-in demo is installed by adding the AIP plugin to the plug-ins path of Illustrator CS5 CS4 (PC or MAC OS X).
The plug-in generates lines during the use of the tool but on exit (mouse up), the lines are deleted. You see the lines in outline so the stroke and fill colors cannot be seen. To use, select the tool via the Illustrator toolbox, doube click the line tool icon to see all the settings (select the tool via the combo / dropdown at the bottom of the palette i.e. select grid tool / paint tool / circular tool etc as required).
The line tool is GX26_LineTool.aip. To use, simply apply a mouse down (or pen) action and apply by dragging to the end point of the design.
Line shapes
The plugin comes with a variety of different line shapes such as a basic line, curved lines (variety of lines), hand drawn lines, randomized line types and more. Use these line types in many of the plugin tools
Plug-in settings
The plug-in set's settings can be accessed by clicking the toolbox icon. Each plugin in the toolkit comes with its own set of settings as well as local (common) settings and global (common) settings.
The global settings affect all the plugins such as randomizing the stroke width or using pen pressure (if you are using the plugin with a pen and artpad) to change the length / opacity / width of the line by pen pressure, as well as other settings.
Local settings include option to trace or trail the designs so instead of creating a single design, the plugin will continue to spray or paint the designs without deleting the previous path impressions; the plugin common section also includes the ability to delete the original line design and more.
Basic functionality of the plugin
The basic functionality of the plugin is based on the creation of a line with a stroke color and width, this line is duplicated and modified by the tool being used so the windmill plugin will create the line and then apply it in a circular manner in 1000s of different ways.
The line shape dropdown (mentioned above) modifies the line so you can generate many random line designs, curved line designs and more
Patterns
The plugin comes with a huge range of pattern settings so instead of say creating 10 lines in a circular pattern, these lines can be reflected as a pattern or tile about the document center or perhaps the start position or the current position of the cursor on the artboard.
There many different pattern settings to use. The pattern feature can create millions of designs alone, combined with the trail tool, literally billions of possible line designs can be created
Lines to brushes / symbols
You can use the lines as lines / paths if you wish. On completion of the plugin effect, you can select the lines and then expand the lines into a filled design or you can export the designs to Photoshop or Flash and other software; or you can apply brush designs from the brushes palette to the lines so instead of just a basic set of lines, you can create grunged or romantic or heart filled or distressed line designs and much more.
The lines can then also be dragged to the symbols palette and used in future projects if you wish.
Randomization
The linetool plugin comes with a huge range of randomization features so you can randomize the opacity, the length of line, interpolation of the line, the line width, the color of the line, the color of the fill, the blending mode for the lines and much more.
You can also create lines with random designs, random curves, random lengths of line, random point positions and much more
Modifiers of the plug-in tool
You can also modify the plugin action as you use the plugin, so instead of creating 10 circles or 10 x 10 grid you can change your mind and hold down the shift key to increase (or the reverse) the number of designs being generated.
Hold down the space key during point's drawing and a point is generated in your line design; hold down the ctrl key / cmd key during the trail and you can stop and start applying the trail allowing you to shift the cursor position to a new position before continuing to add 100s of designs (the trail feature is great for sketchy / sketched / drawn line designs)
Manga
The plugin is great for creating zoom or effect lines for manga comics, as well as framing devices for illustrations and much more. |
