Replace symbols tutorial in Illustrator

If you change your mind about an Illustrator symbol, and as long as you haven't expand the design into a normal Illustrator path, you can use the top palette replace symbol dropdown. Select the new symbol in the replace palette and the current displayed symbol will be changed. After changing the symbol you will have to re-size the new symbol as the created symbol takes its default size which might be bigger or smaller than the replaced symbol.

How to use a symbol as a brush in Illustrator ?

The Illustrator symbols can also be used as a brush stroke. Simply drag the illustration from the palette to the document and then drag the path to the brush palette, saving the brush as a new brush. The brush can also be re-colored etc as normal. You may wish to expand and ungroup and modify the symbol before saving as a brush as well. The brush strokes can be used as scatter or artistic for truly exciting designs
