Additional notes

1) Multiple instance : Symbols can be simply added to the document by dragging from the symbols palette onto the document. Multiple instances of the symbol can be added with little overhead to Illustrator.
2) Symbol sprayer : Symbols can be applied via the symbol sprayer tool, though as mentioned, they can be added by simply dragging onto the document. The symbols can be sprayed throughout the document, overlapped and much more.
3) Re-size symbols : The symbols can be tinted and re-size and angled via the symbol spray tool, simply select a color and select the symbol stainer tool and apply to any symbol in the document
4) Replace symbols : One useful hint, the symbols can be exchanged for another symbol at any point in the creative process. Simple select the symbol, select the new symbol in the palette and select replace from the symbol menu
5) Symbols as paths : Symbols can also be simply expanded and used as a normal path. Select the symbol and expand via the path menu. Once expanded, ungroup the individual elements of the group and then re-color, re-size, angle etc as desired and if you wish, re-save the group as a new symbol
6) Combine : The symbols can also be used in combo with the symbols tools included in the vector collection of plug-ins (if you have purchased those). The collection comes with four sets of tools for symbols such as the symbol multitoolbox and symboltexture plug-in. The symbols can also be used in nearly all the 'path' plugins such as duplicate or layers
7) Brushes : The symbols can also be used as a brush stroke. Simply drag the symbol from the palette to the document and then drag the symbol to the brush palette, saving the brush as a new brush. The brush can also be re-colored etc as normal. You may wish to expand and ungroup and modify the symbol before saving as a brush as well. The brush strokes can be used as scatter or artistic for truly exciting designs.
8) Native format : The symbols in this set are stored in native format AI files, a format for both MAC OS X and PC.
9) Styles : The symbols can be used with many effects such as 3D extrude or scribble, use with appearances palette
10) 3D Extrude : Use the symbols on the surface of any 3D extruded paths via the 'map art' section
11) Re-color : Use the symbol sprayer recolor option to modify the color of the symbol. Simply add the symbol to the palette, select a color in the toolbox (fill), and stain the color. The symbol can, of course, be broken apart and modified and then re-saved as a symbol as an alternative approach to re-coloring. Another approach is to go to the appearance palette and change the color of the fill and stroke (of course, multiple fills and effects can also be added to the symbol). If there are multiple components to the symbol, the basic fill approach might not work but you can also tint the symbol via the appearance palette by adding a fill and then setting that to a color and setting the transparency to less than 100% to allow the original symbol to be seen but also with a tint.
12) Opening a symbols file : If you open a symbols file and the symbols palette is not present, you will see nothing in the file. the symbols are only displayed if you select the symbols palette and then drag or use symbols contained within the symbols palette. If you edit the original symbols file and modify the symbols, the newly modified symbols will be available to add to other documents (either your own or your colleagues)
13) Installation of symbols : Place AI files in presets symbols folder, access via symbols palette
14) Export symbols : Symbols can be exported to Flash, Photoshop and many other applications.
