Christmas / Xmas Symbols

Christmas Xmas Symbols to buy and use in Illustrator CS5 CS4 CS3 CS2 CS1 10, PC and MAC OS X

Combine Christmas symbols in Illustrator

All the Christmas symbols / shapes are vectors so they can be used with any size of document or artwork. Many different Christmas designs are included in the sets. The symbols can also be combined - so add the teddy bear symbols to the Christmas buables or add the Teddy Bear shape to the top of the Christmas trees. You can then save the combined shape as a new symbol by adding the paths back into the symbol palette

1) Select two or more Christmas symbols

2) Drag the symbols to the symbol palette

3) Give a name to the new symbol

Access the new symbol via the symbols palette. You can use multiple snow flake symbols etc to create more ornate snow flake symbol designs.

How to add Christmas symbols to 3D designs in Illustrator ?

Use the Christmas shapes / designs on the surface of any 3D extruded paths via the 'map art' section.

1) Draw a basic path

2) Effect > 3D > extrude

3) Click map art button

4) Select one of the Christmas symbols in the symbols dropdown

5) click the scale to fit or scale as required to fill or not fill the design

6) Move through the various surfaces and add a symbol as required

7) Click preview to see the design in progress

8) Click OK

You can then re-modify the design by using the apperance palette and clicking on the 3D extrude option for the selected path

What file format for Illustrator shapes ?

All the Christmas Illustrator symbols are stored in the standard AI format. They can also be opened as a normal file via the file > open menu. The Christmas AI file contains the shapes in a special area in its file structure so other software can only access the shapes and designs included in the artboard area of the Illustrator file and not the actual library (some of the earlier symbol sets only included the designs in the symbols palette).

Trying to open the Christmas symbols in Photoshop etc will result in a dialog showing all the designs in the main artboard and you will not be able to access the individual designs.

The Christmas symbol files are all stored in standard AI format for version 10 of Illustrator as that was the earliest format for symbols. If you save the file to a format earlier than 10, the symbols will not be saved. If you are using Illustrator CS5 and save the symbols then the symbols will be saved as version CS5 format and will probably cause issues for earlier versions of Illustrator. On saving the Christmas Xmas shape symbols files, you can save them to other formats such as CS5 or CS4 etc

Video tutorial: Edit Christmas bauble symbols in Illustrator CS4 (and CS5) tutorial

Quick tutorial showing the edit of an Illustrator Christmas symbol shape in Illustrator CS4 / CS5 and how to re-color a design, combine with other paths and more. The symbols can be changed in countless ways to create a near infinite number of wonder Christmas bauble and other Christmas designs. The symbols are all vectors so can be used with any size of document. The symbols are all stored in standard AI files and the symbol files included the designs as normal paths as well as allowing for the symbols to be accessed via the window > symbols palette. The tutorial shows the Christmas baubles being modified but any symbol can be changed in the same way.
