You can extend this (perhaps for a number of shadows as well as bevel effects to add multiple drop shadows to a single brush stroke and the shadows can all be changed at any point as can then original diamond brush stroke

Above, using a diamond brush from pack 163 in Photoshop CS6 / CS5 - the brush is added to a layer (black foreground) and converted into a smart object. A drop shadow is added, using layer effects, to the smart object - the shadow color red. That in turn is turned into a smart object and then a new shadow is applied in blue and that entire design is turned into a smart object (and so on) until you end up with a weird colorful red, green, blue, yellow echo brush stroke.

Note - the brush stroke design as well as all the shadows are still editable. The diamond brush can be modified and all the layer effects will be applied to the new design automatically. You can also replace the entire brush stroke with multiple strokes or an image.

You can also just set the whole thing as an action and apply to any brush strokes to create a truly weird and wonderful color effect to an image.
