Thumbnail gallery of the flame custom shapes in pack 39 - many different flame designs, flickering and tattoo shapes - all the designs are vectors for any size of work, all can be a lot bigger than displayed flame custom shapes. If you want to see bigger examples of the flames, please contact us for larger images for particular flame designs.
Loading flame shapes into Photoshop The flame / fire shapes can be loaded into Photoshop (and elements) by a couple of methods - perhaps the easiest is the file open command, loading the shapes as you would open a JPG file. Another way to load the flame fire shapes is via the shapes palette menu - load (adds to the existing shapes) and replace (removes existing shapes and loads only the flame shapes)
Flames / smart objects in Photoshop using background / image If you are using Photoshop CS6 / CS5, you can apply a flame shape to the background layer (black shape to a yellow background) and then use the layer menu and smart object sub menu and convert command - even though the background is not really a layer - it instantly becomes a layer / smart object. Effects can be applied to the background as well as layer effects (though obviously it takes into account the flame shape and the background)
The smart object background 'flame' shape can be duplicated. The underlying image can be changed at any point - say add new flames to the underlying design - and all the effects and styles will be updated to reflect the new design (or a totally different image can be pasted into the design via the pasteboard / clipboard)
Flame shapes as smart object in Photoshop CS6 / CS5 Select the shape tool and select a flame / fire shape (from pack 39) and select the shape option 'shape layer' (top options bar in Photoshop). Go to the layer menu followed by smart objects and convert
The flame smart object can now have effects applied (smart filters) such as a blur - adding to the flame shape design as well as layer effects such as a stroke and a gradient (yellow orange as above). The flame shape can be changed at any point to a different shape design or the flame shape can be tweaked by using the point tools. The effects and layer effects can also be modified at any point.
You can also, weirdly, turn the filter / effects smart object flame into a totally new smart object which in turn can have its own drop shadow and bevel etc effects added. The underlying vector flame / fire shape is still editable.
The flame shapes can also be grouped and the grouping can be turned into a smart object and so on. At all points, the original underlying shape can be reached and modified and all the instances of the flames will then be updated accordingly (not sure how complex a set of smart objects and filters you can reach but the more smart object layers you go, the harder it is to click through all the smart objects to reach the underlying flame / fire shape.
