Tutorials

Tutorial 1 ] Accessing symbols in Freehand

1) Opening a symbols FH file and you will see nothing in the document space. You can only 'see' the symbols in the symbols palette. This means you might think the file is totally empty, it isn't.

2) Open a new document in Freehand

3) Go to the symbols palette in Freehand (this is accessed via the panels menu)

4) Go to the options dropdown at the top of the symbols palette

5) Select the 'import ... ' command

6) A new palette will appear showing all the symbols in a symbols FH file. Select the symbols you require or all

7) The symbols will now appear in the document's symbols palette.

8) Access the symbols by dragging them on to the document space

You can always edit the source symbols file but again, the symbols are only visible via the symbols palette. Once edited, save the document and the new symbols will be accessible via other documents.

Symbols can be modified in many way, generally you need to use the release instance command found in the modify menu and the ungroup command. You can then re-color individual components, re-shape the components and more. You will also be able to use xtras etc to further modify the shape and design
