Access the halloween shapes via the palette in Photoshop tutorial

Once the halloween / nightmare shapes have been loaded (either via the load or replace command or via the preset manager) you can then access the individual custom shapes designs (see below).

The halloween shapes can be applied either as a shape layer or a fill pixel or path (the example below shows the shapes applied as a fill). You can set the color of the Halloween shape via the foreground color.

All the shapes in the set are loaded but if you would like to remove some of the shapes, simply hold the ALT key down and click the shape.

custom shapes - recolor

The shapes can be any color - they can be filled with a color via the foreground toolbox

gradient custom shapes

The shapes can also be filled with a gradient - use the shapes as a shape layer or use a shape as a path and then turn into a selection and fill with a gradient

halloween shapes layer effects

The Halloween shapes can be applied as a fill or as a layer - as a layer you can use the layer effects (or styles) with the shapes and apply a color overlay - as above to turn the pumpkins orange - and also add a bevel / 3D effect to the shape. Shape from pack 99

As a layer you could also add a creepy glow behind the pumpkins to suggest spooky. The layer effect dialog allows for the addition of a pattern and also a gradient as well as a color and satin effect and also textures to be added to the pumpkin / Halloween design so instead of the flat surface above you could add a rough texture.

Video tutorial: How to create a halloween glowing eyes pumpkin using Photoshop custom shapes tutorial

This is a quick tutorial showing how to use a basic halloween pumpkin shape (from the pack 99 set) and apply gradients to the eyes, head, nose etc to create a glowing candle effect in Photoshop (the same approach can be used for Photoshop Elements and earlier versions of Photoshop). The Photoshop shape is applied as a fill pixel Halloween design in black (it could equally be created in orange !)
