Polka Dot brushes color mix for Photoshop and Elements tutorial

1) Open new document

2) window menu and channels

3) Select brush tool

4) Set brush color to black via the foreground color in the toolbox

5) Select the polka dot brush (load the brush library via the right side menu of the brushes palette)

6) Set the color channel to red only by clicking the red channel

7) Apply brush stroke polka dot design

8) Select the green channel

9) Apply polka brush stroke slightly offset from original red design

10) repeat with blue channel

Unusual polka dot color image in seconds. By using the image menu and adjustments command and "black and white" filter you can also create a grayscale version of the design which can then be saved as a brush via the define command and brush option and the sequence can be repeated - using that new brush as a source for the red green and blue sequence

Also, you can apply the same in different color modes so if you are in LAB color mode or CMYK then you can run through the same process with the polka dot brushes and create weird and wonderful CMYK polka dot designs.

Polka dot brush and depth / surface texture for Photoshop and Elements

You can create different and unusual surface textures by using the polka dot brushes and combining the brush strokes with a gaussian blur.

1) New document

2) Set the brush color to black via the Photoshop toolbox

3) Select the brush tool

4) Select a polka dot brush via the brushes palette

5) Apply polka dot brush

6) Gaussian blur - high setting to really smudge / blur the brush stroke

7) Apply polka dot brush slightly offset from the original brush stroke

8) Apply gaussian blur again but with a slightly lower setting

9) repeat the brush stroke and blur (using less blur each time) and offset the brush stroke in different ways

10) Finish with a single clear brush stroke in the same color (or use white for an interesting surface texture effect)

The brush strokes can be applied to give depth and material to even a basic flat brush stroke - add gloss to the polka dot designs.

The design can then also be saved as a new brush via the define brush command. You could also apply the design on a new layer and then combine the brush strokes with layer effects such as metallic styles or bevel effects.
