Tutorial: Installation of paper grains / texture in Painter and Painter's apply surface texture
Tutorial: Video of the installation of the paper grains / paper textures for use in Corel ® Painter IX (the same basic approach for Corel Painter XI, X, 8, 7 etc PC or MAC OS X) Paper grains are PAP files, the video shows how to accessing the PAP files via the Painter toolbox; the use of the grains in the apply surface texture filter inc. the use of the lights / changing light direction / color / softness settings / contrast of paper grains / scaling of paper grains. Video also shows the basic use of the grains with Painter's brush strokes using the grainy method. The sample of painter grains below is very small in comparision with the full sets of grains (1350 of them).The grains are all stored in native Painter grains PAP files and can be accessed via the toolbox (at the bottom of the toolbox, select the grain icon to expand and display the current set of grains). To see more of the grains included in the set, please check out the thumbnail gallery links on the top right
Load PAP library and access paper grain designs
Once you have the grains palette open, go to the load library menu on the palette and load the PAP library (there are many different PAP libraries as it would be impossible to include all the grains in a single file)
The grains can be scaled, the contrast changed etc via the grains sliders.
Brush textures
The grains can then be applied in a variety of ways in Painter: Painter brushes for one (set to paper method) as well as most of the effects (a dropdown can be set to gradient, original luminance, paper etc - the one you want is the paper method) in apply surface texture, express texture, etc effects.
Glass distortions and Painter grains
The grains can also be used in many other areas by using the selection / paper grains option to select an area and then apply effects such as lighting using the grain. My favourite for the paper grains PAP files is the glass distortions and you can use the grains in 1000s of ways in glass filter (as well as plugin layer) All the grains are seamless, all the grains can be used as a source for other grains and pattern effects. The grains are all Commercial use OK, items for sale, use to create distress and grunge effects in countless different projects
Surface textures
The grains can be blurred, the grains can be applied as surface textures (great designs can be created just by changing the color of the lights and the angle of the lights in the apply surface texture dialog). The grains can also be used in plug-in effects, the grains can also be used combined with other plug-in effects and more. Literally a stunning toolkit of designs and effects for Painter.
Grains format
The Painter grains were created a while ago so now the grains DPI might not be the greatest for all kinds of design work if you require a large DPI (say documents 4000 x 4000 etc) You can scale the grains and smooth to a great degree and still create truly wow image and textures and grains and blurry glass distortions with all the powerful grain files.
