Tutorial 1 ] Displacements / create layers 1) Create new shape layer with metallic style applied 2) Layer style > create layers to split all the layer effects into their own layers 3) Select the shape drop shadow layer 4) Go to the distort menu and select displace and apply 20 / 20 and a selected texture map (in this case, texture 1) 5) The drop shadow alone will be displaced, the shape etc will be untouched This can be repeated with the other style layers. Other effects such as blurs etc can also be applied in combination with the displace effect creating unique shadow designs (mottled shadows) effects. The create layers menu option is a fairly powerful (albeit one way destructive) way of adding to styles, creating unique satin and drop shadow effects (but still keeping the original shape design)
Tutorial 2 ] Channel color 1) Create a gradient (black and white) and apply vertically 2) Select the red channel and apply a displacement map (texture 1 in this case) with 20 / 20 using the displace filter (found in the distort menu) 3) Select the green channel and apply with 10 / 10 with the same displacement map / texture and so on 4) Repeat with blue channel and again change the settings. 5) Continue with red / green and blue with different settings The end result is a mish mash of random (like) color across an image |
