How to create a checkerboard pattern in Photoshop tutorial

How to create a quick checkerboard pattern in Photoshop. The checkerboard pattern can be any two colors but for the example, black and white are being used

  1. New document 2000 x 2000 white background for checkerboard

  2. View menu and snap ON and snap options for guides ON also

  3. View menu and new guide vertical and 1000px and repeat but select horizontal

  4. Rectangle tool in toolbar and fill pixels option

  5. Set foreground color for the checkerboard pattern to black (or any color)

  6. Go to top left of document and draw rectangle to the middle where the guide will 'snap' the shape to the middle

  7. Goto bottom right and draw rectangle to the middle and again snap to the middle and release

  8. Edit menu

  9. Define pattern command

  10. Give it a name

  11. OK

You can create more complex checkerboard patterns perhaps 4 x 4, 6 x 6 etc and so on. Perhaps vary the color of the checkerboard patterns to red and blue or fill the 'white' with a gradient etc. You can also do much the same thing in most applications.
