Tutorial 1] Fill heart pattern content with a difference 1) Open a new document 2) Fill the document with color yellow 3) Go to the layer menu and select the new fill layer command and pattern 4) Set the mode to 'difference' 5) Click OK 6) You will see the pattern palette. Select the hearts pattern 1 PAT file and then select the hearts 060 pattern. The pattern palette shows the name as well as the pattern tile size. The scale of the pattern can also be modified here. The pattern can also be aligned as required by clicking on the pattern layer and shifting it right left up or down. The alignment can also be done after removing this dialog. 7) Click OK 8) The document now has a background layer and a new pattern fill layer. The layer blending mode can be changed in the layers palette by selecting the layer and changing the blending mode for the layer (the opacity can also be changed) The heart design can be scaled while it is a pattern layer but it cannot be rotated (sadly). Rasterize the layer for rotation. One way around the rotation and keeping the layer contents available is to use the smart objects. The layer can be rotated etc and the contents are still available to edit via saving to the PSB format. Multiple fill layers can be applied and aligned and different blending modes applied. Complex patterns can be created (as well as sometimes, very messy ones) If you wish to apply an effect to the pattern fill layer, you will be required to rasterize the fill and no further pattern editing of the hearts design is possible. Once rasterized, blurs, color changes, artistic effects etc can be applied. The layer can also be warped and transformed.
