Type, Text, Letter Font Shapes for Word, PaintShop Pro, Elements, Pages and others - truetype and EPS format designs

Fonts and Custom shapes conversion in Photoshop etc tutorial

The true type fonts can be used as is in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements so you can apply the shapes designs as you would Verdana or Times New Roman and use the standard window menu and characters palette to change the size, kerning, leading, scale etc of the shapes.

You can turn a select font shape / design into a custom shape and store it for future use in the custom shape palette by using the following commands

Layer menu and type command and convert shape

Edit menu and define custom shape command

Fonts as a normal layer - layer styles in Photoshop etc

You can use fonts basically the same as any normal layer and you can apply layer styles to the font via

layer menu and layer style command

and you can then apply a drop shadow to the font shape as well as bevel and color overlay etc.

Type fonts, Rasterization and Effects

The font shapes can be rasterized and just used as a normal layer. If you attempt to apply an effect to a font shape you will be prompted with a dialog saying the type will be turned into a normal raster layer (such as blurs etc)

Direct selection tool in Photoshop and fonts

The font shapes can be converted to a custom shape and then you can use the direct selection tool and other path tools to manipulate the shape design.

Photoshop is a wonderful tool but it is perhaps easier to use Illustrator or other vector software to modify the designs

A powerful application for pattern creation - Pattern magic also can use TTF true type font shapes as a source for pattern designs.

1) Start with an empty canvas

2) File menu and import

3) Select a TTF true type font file

A display of all the accessible characters in the font will be displayed. Click the character required and 'insert and close'

4) Re-size and reposition the vector design and use to create stunning patterns in Pattern Magic

5) Apply styles / global NPR

6) Bitmap export etc to save the pattern design

The above example shows one of the 'C' letter fonts applied as a pattern in Pattern Magic - a paint style applied to the C letter shape. The designs are all vectors so they can be any size, they can be re-colored, overlapped, effects applied, bevels applied and much more.

EPS / symbols designs in Apple Pages etc

The font sets all include the same designs in EPS format. If you are using Apple Pages then you can use either the font designs or the EPS files. To add the designs into Page you can use the command insert menu and choose command. If you are using the type / letter designs in another application such as Photoshop and PaintShop Pro, acess the eps files via the file open command or the file place command. You can also open the eps type / letter designs in Illustrator - even better, you can then use the various Illustrator tools to manipulate the designs in countless new ways which can then be saved as a new format

The eps type / letter shapes can also be converted to other formats - they do not have to remain as EPS. EPS was chosen as it is a vector format and that it is resolution free. The designs can be saved as PNG or JPG etc. In my work, I use a basic action / batch process to convert between the formats using Photoshop but if you don't have Photoshop or PaintShop Pro, you can always use other batch conversion tools freely found on the web
