The changes only are for CS4, no further updates for CS3 and before. The changes include many additional patterns added to each of the plugins for various mirror and tiling etc designs; and major additions to the windmill plugin which now includes a circles features (creates multiple circles instead of just one) and turn elliptical features to create windmill designs in elliptical and additional styles instead of just circular. The new features also work well in combination with the circles factor and trace trail settings. The toolbox plugin set is for Illustrator CS4 CS3 CS2 CS1 10 PC and MAC OS X. Festive designs abound on the graphicxtras.com site (as well as on many other sites) and these include custom shapes for Photoshop (R), brushes (candles, etc), graphic layers as well as patterns. There are also a selection of font sets and they will work in many other applications such as Fireworks (R), Flash (R) and others. Sets include many different designs such as candles, baubles, presents, Xmas puds, trees, angels, stars, snow flakes and many more designs. The latest release on the graphicxtras.com site is a patterns set Festive 3 and that includes 100 different pattern designs. The patterns are all 300 DPI, colorful, 1000 x 1000. They are also seamless, all the patterns on the site are seamless or tileable. Patterns are easy to use in Photoshop as well as Elements, stored in PAT format. They can be quickly loaded into the application via the file open command, or double click the PAT file for an even quicker approach; or store the pattern presets in the presets patterns folder of Photoshop and access via the patterns palette panel. Patterns can be used in fill layers, layer styles and more. They can also be a great source for brush textures, even brush designs or custom shapes designs (via paths and selections) or displacement maps and distortions. The brushes can be used with all versions from Illustrator 10 upwards, some of the earlier sets are also for version 8 but that is no longer supported. The brushes are a wonderful vector resource that can be used with brush strokes, with standard paths as well as text. Brushes sets are a mix of brush types: scatter and artistic (yet to create any pattern ones, always found them a little tricky to get on with). The brushes can be modified in many different ways such as adding tinting, direction changed, size, etc. The brushes can be modified, re-worked and then re-saved as a new brush. Brushes are easy to use, they are simply accessed via the Illustrator brushes palette. The files, if opened, are generally empty and the brushes can only be seen in the palette; I have changed my approach to that as it always caused some confusion and now the brushes are also available in the document as well. The brushes can be converted to use as a standard path or used as a symbol. Scripting and brushes are limited and also there are no plugins on the graphicxtras site to manipulate them (never seen any plugins related to brushes, perhaps there are some but I have never encountered any). The latest set is 3D themed and include rotate and revolve and extrude styles. Styles are easy to use, they can be quickly applied to paths and text and other elements in Illustrator. The 3D styles were all created in a RGB document, A4 format, 600 x 600 basic path. If you apply the styles to a path that is 10 x 10 the result will be very different from that applied to a 4000 x 4000 path; so some element of re-scaling or modification of the style might be required and this done by clicking on various items in the appearance palette. You might have to change the bevel size, the stroke size, etc. Most of the styles sets can be used in all versions of Illustrator from 10 upwards (styles were added to Illustrator with version 10) and these include the gradients and patterns packs. However, some of the styles packs use elements such as scribble or 3D or aspect ratio gradients and therefore cannot be used in 10 etc. The styles are often only a starting point, you can always add additional fills or strokes or duplicate existing elements of the styles via the appearance palette. Styles also can be combined (to a point). The styles can also be saved to the symbols palette for future use. The styles packs on graphicxtras are now up to volume 11. http://www.graphicxtras.com Sat, 24 Oct 2009 10:02:42 GMT Been working on many grid designs or lattices based on hexagons (or symmetry group 15 or 16, a mix of the two) in Illustrator (R) using the excellent plugin set Curvius as well as Tessella - check them out on the Stephen Vincent website. Anyway, the designs are a mix of radial, linear, random clutter, triangles and many more turned into a complex grid or lattice or overlay. They are not patterns, oh, I wish I could work out how to create them as that but they are all vectors but they can be combined, warped and much more. A reasonable compromise, I hope. The two sets created are fonts for (as well as eps, I always like to add those as it means they are a little more flexible) many apps and also a set of custom shapes CSH format for Photoshop (R) and Photoshop Elements. The sets include 90 designs at their core but because I can't stop messing around with the designs in FontLab, there are also many additional variant designs including some even more complex and weird lattice designs. Will be releasing a whole load more of these sets as well over the next few months, once I get to grips with all the great features of the Tessella plugin. Also been trying out Inkscape.. that is a neat little vector tool as well. Designs perfect for Photoshop and Photoshop Elements (as well as others). The Halloween designs are all vector designs so can be used to any size in Photoshop etc, use at 100 x 100 or 5000 x 5000. The Halloween EPS designs are useful as well as you can use the file > import or file > open command and then just use the designs as a new file or as a layer, so effects etc can be applied. Blurs and glows can be added to give that gruesome chill to the Halloween designs. Full designs are included but also component designs such as mouthes, eyes, pumpkins, etc are also included for fun additions. How to use the components in Photoshop etc, use the add and subtract and exclude etc commands with the shapes tools to create unique and fun Halloween designs. Truly scary.
