How to create ghostly / spooky type in Photoshop tutorial
  1. Fill background with black via edit menu / fill in Photoshop for the ghostly spooky type

  2. Create type via the type tool in Photoshop using white (filling most of document)

  3. Flatten

  4. Filter menu and Gaussian blur (40px perhaps but depends on size of type and document)

  5. Select the gradient tool in the Photoshop toolbar

  6. Select the gradient (Black, white) via the gradients preset picker (set to default gradients via reset)

  7. Set gradient style to linear and blending mode to overlay

  8. Apply gradient over the type from top to bottom of the document (vary origin point) for the spooky effect

  9. Filter menu and liquify and select the forward warp tool (set brush size to a large value)

  10. Warp the type in different directions

Edit and fade text : edit modeAnother option is to use the edit menu fade after you perform the liquify filter (found in the filter menu) and set the opacity to 50% and the blending mode to lighten and you will have a ghostly shadow character effect

 

Smart filters : liquidYou can use a combination of filters such as the blur and liquify. Firstly select the object and then go to the layer menu and smart objects and convert.

 

Apply a gaussian blur from the filter menu and then go to the liquify. The forward warp tool is a good tool to warp the characters in the direction you want but the bloat tool adds a final touch. Click OK.
